Playing with shapes again: redone work

When I was in Italy I bought a magazine which attracted my eyes. I am impressed by the Italy advertisement design style. Every page in this magazine is nice. The combination of colors, typeface, the message which it represent. I really like it and have to say every Italian magazine I saw is superb.

Assigment four

This assignment was very hard for me. The typography is not easy to understand. At this point I had made some repetation about history of typefaces and exactly it made additional understanding about typography. Still I think I am on half a way to better recognise the feel of it. Especially exercise Hiearchy I made in a serendipitously way. I just looked in magazines for typefaces style/combinations and after I choose a little bit same font from my fonts without exploring their history. Anyway the typography will be in my focus in future. I want to explore their spoke style in much more details in combinations with graphic desing.
The final work I made in a hurry. So, I have made only letters for the sign Type. It is very simple font where I used a perfect circle shape of o wich was also used for construction of p. The final cover was choosen by my collegues from my work and I think it is good even the typography overlap the figure of man. For the article I used a few books and I hope I was on the right way. Anyway this chapter was very exciting and I did not believe that the typography can have so big influence. I started to notice how in bad way the typography is used around us. With the "bad" I think that the typography does not convey the message in right way. Also when I saw feedback from my tutor for my earliest works where were notion that the typography is not right. I did not undestand why but now I can say that I am closer to understand it :-))))))

I have made mock-ups for both final covers. I like both version of covers below. I chose for the final cover the orange/black version because it looked more attractive for me.

I have made this picture because it revealed in my mind and I thought it would be worth to used it in the part of  article about question marks.

I asked my colleague to give me some feedback on the covers. Here are the final two which were chosen by them. I prefer the left and I will use it as final cover for the magazine.

a treatment of the first font

The letter y did not look good. I shortened it and change the curve of the terminal of y. I think it looks much more better.

I thought some serifs would help to create some mechanical feel of the font but it does not look good when it is in layout. It looks old and I think we need some fresh feel for the Type magazine. I think I stay at the first san serif version.

My intention was to have a very simple cover. I was inspired by orange color from the bulb exercise. I think the combination with the gray color (which I like in first) looks good. Even-though the second design is somehow overfull. I like the combinations where is only one color. It looks more clear. I like all these cover, the second should be deleted.

I started with designing a font. My first idea was to have a san-serif font very close to Helvetica. I used photoshop to design it.
