MARSEILLES

Marseilles is a beautiful white town for me and the white is a dominant color if we are in the town. I added blue color to design the sea with white lines as boat masts in port. The red colors are roofs. 

MARRAKECH

MANHATTAN

The Manhattan has central park and when I saw it from satellite view I decided to transfer the shape into design. When I walked in streets from google-car view I saw the yellow taxi everywhere. Also there is beautiful green side of the town. I made reverse of the shape, so I put outside the green and put inside the colors of the skyscrapers. The turquoise color represents the Statue of Liberty.

MANCHESTER

Manchester is a beautiful town for me. I like the color of old town. The brick color is everywhere so it was my dominant color. I tried to build design which would be close to the last photograph. I used analogous color of the brick, the green is complementary and the blue is color of Manchester City football team. Because there are new buildings I add the white and light blue. I am not sure about the sign "manchester" , mainly about its position. 

MANAGUA

Here I used colors from flag of Nicaragua. The complementary colors are red and yellow which are on walls of buildings and remember the Spanish history. The two lines represent yellow lines on the roads. The green stripes with combination of yellow strips represent palm trees. 

MALMO

I read that MALMO is the fourth greenest city on the "world", so I decided that dominant color would be green. I used the white skyscraper which is the biggest dominant in MALMO in my design as a white block on right side. Blue color represents sky and lakes. The red color is complementary color to green. I used the yellow the yellow lines as clues that the town is in Sweden. I like this design

MADRID

My first idea was to use colors from flag of town and when I saw the photograph of the Puerta de Sol where is a building with same color (especially the red color) I decided to use it. I like the dominant of white frames of windows there and you can see such as style at many places in Madrid. Another dominant color was white in my opinion and that was the second color. The blue is color of sky and yellow is a part of national color.

Exercise Abstract cities: research

I had to admit that this exercise was very difficult for me.

For my research I mainly used google. I collected some photographs of the requested cities. I walked through the towns via Google Earth which helped me to see the towns from driver view. I read something about the towns on wikipedia. Starting point was the hardest. I decided to make the design similar to the landscape of the town or to a dominant of the town. I chose color palette according to colors in photographs. It was also hard because the towns have different colors in different parts of a day (morning, sunset, night) and in other seasons (autumn, winter etc.). Thus, I chose colors which were dominant: colors on buildings, green if there was parks or trees, blue as the sea, sky etc.

I noticed that each town has very similar colors of buildings (light yellow, white, red) and it was very hard to chose them.
